Basis of the edition

The present edition is based on the photographs available at the Mainzer Photoarchiv of the Hethitologie Portal Mainz, as well as the available hand-copies and relevant secondary literature up to 2019. When the original manuscripts have been collated, this is noted in the commentary.

This heavily burned-out fragment preserves a historical preamble, a very unusual feature among cult inventories (Cammarosano 2013: 72). There, king Tudḫaliya (IV) recalls how he rebuilt the town of Ḫalinzuwa (=Ḫatenzuwa) and restored its cults, which were ruined at the time of the former kings (obv. i 1-4). The geographical setting of the inventory is therefore in the northern districts (Corti 2017, 228 fn. 103; for Ḫatenzuwa see also Kryszeń 2016: 148-55); this conclusion is corroborated by the mention of a town called Gaški[lušša?], treated in rev. iv 2′ (see commentary).

The last lines of the reverse (iv 7′-12′) are written in bigger size than the rest of the tablet, and the verticals slope to the left. They do not constitute the colophon – which is preserved on the left edge – but rather a summary, listing the cult personnel which has been singled out and the total cult provisions to be supplied. It has therefore be numbered as an autonomous paragraph, although it is not preceded by a ruling. Note in this paragraph the presence of twelve “men of the TUKUL-service,” rev. 9′, cf. rev. 6′. Judging from its extant portion, the colophon (l. e. 1) listed the towns which were “completed” (zinnanteš) on the tablet.
